Autumn Term 2
'Learning for life, building a firm foundation.'
Who do we remember?
The second half of our WW1 topic focuses on the life and exploits of Walter Tull, the first black officer in the British Army and forgotten war hero. We follow Walter’s life from his early life in an orphanage in London through his stellar football career and into the battlefield of France, Italy and Belgium. Using recounts, diaries and official documentation we learn all there is to know about this amazing man who challenged racial stereotypes in the military and football alike. We will be focusing our reading on Poetry inspired by the war and those that served and witnessed it.
